Ute Tribe banishes former financial adviser

The Ute Tribe of Utah has banished its non-Indian former financial adviser from the Uintah and Ouray Reservation.

John Jurrius resigned last year but tribal leaders said he is still trying to influence business matters. So tribal security and Bureau of Indian Affairs police have been told to escort him from the reservation if he turns up.

"He realizes that he lost his gold mine and all the deals that he wrote himself into and now wants to get back into it," Chairman Curtis Cesspooch told The Deseret News.

Jurrius worked for the tribe for six years, earning a reported $62,500 a month, plus a cut of every deal he negotiated. Some tribal members criticized the arrangement but others say he led the tribe to financial success.
