Judge issues ruling in Yankton Sioux hog farm case

A federal judge issued a written ruling in a lawsuit brought by members of the Yankton Sioux Tribe against a hog farm in Charles Mix County, South Dakota.
In the three-page
order, Judge Lawrence Piersol confirmed that the 40-acre hog farm is not part of the Yankton Sioux Reservation. He acknowledged that the only road leading to the site is maintained by the Bureau of Indian Affairs but said the road actually belongs to the county.
Tribal members still can try to prove that the hog farm violates federal laws, Piersol said.
