A judge in Massachusetts dismissed a second lawsuit filed by members of the
Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe who were shunned for questioning tribal leaders.
Four tribal members who wanted a closer look at the tribe's finances were barred from tribal activities for seven years when they field a lawsuit in state court. The case was dismissed after the tribe won federal recognition in May 2007..
The tribal members filed a second suit in April, hoping to get around the immunity issue by suing the non-profit corporation that the tribe incorporated under state law. But the case was dismissed yesterday, The Cape Cod Times reported.
The tribal members who were shunned include Amelia Bingam, who helped launch the tribe's bid for federal recognition in the 1970s.
