Sen. Brownback hopeful for U.S. apology this year
Thursday, July 3, 2008

Time is running out but Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kansas) is hopeful that Congress will pass a resolution to apologize to Native peoples this year.

Brownback first introduced the resolution in 2004. It passed the Senate earlier this year as part of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act.

The House has yet to take up the measure. But Brownback says Canada's recent apology to former students of Native residential schools puts pressure on the United States to take action.
