Controversy continues over new Alaska top cop
Friday, July 25, 2008

Gov. Sarah Palin (R) continues to face the fire over the state's public safety commissioner.

Palin has been criticized for firing Walt Monegan, the first Alaska Native to hold the job. He says he was ousted because he refused to fire a trooper who was married to Palin's sister.

Now Palin says she didn't know that Chuck Kopp, whom she picked as Monegan's replacement, had a letter of reprimand in his file for allegedly harassing a female employee. She says she learned of the complaint on Tuesday, when Kopp made it public at a press conference on Tuesday.

Kopp had the letter removed from his file but was never technically cleared of the harassment charge.
