Sen. Stevens set for quick trial on corruption charges
Friday, August 1, 2008

Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), will be headed to trial September 24 after pleading not guilty on Thursday to corruption charges.

Stevens hopes the case against him can be resolved before the general election in November. He also wants the trial moved to Alaska though a judge has not acted on that request.

Stevens is charged with seven counts of making false statements. Federal prosecutors allege he failed to disclose more than $250,000 in gifts from Veco, a former oil company whose activities have ensnared other politicians in Alaska.
