Sen. John McCain
(R-Arizona), the presumptive Republican nominee for president, will campaign with a former associate of convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
As chairman of the
Senate Indian
Affairs Committee, McCain investigated Abramoff's bilking of tribes. One name that repeatedly came up during the scandal was Ralph Reed, a conservative activist who accepted $4.1 million from Abramoff's team.
McCain obtained documents from Reed's consulting firm but didn't assign any blame to Reed. The investigation, however, hurt Reed's campaign for lieutenant governor in Georgia, where Reed is hosting a fundraiser for McCan on August 18.
