McCain urged to kill fundraiser with Abramoff figure

Sen. John McCain
(R-Arizona), the presumptive Republican nominee for president, is being urged to cancel a fundraiser that is being hosted by an associate of convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
Three watchdog group say McCain should not appear with Ralph Reed, a conservative activist who accepted $4.1 million from Abramoff's team, at the August 13 fundraiser in Atlanta. Reed wasn't charged in connection with the scandal but his political career was damaged by McCain's investigation of Abramoff.
McCain has touted the investigation numerous times on the campaign trail. He has adopted a strict policy against lobbyists working for his campaign though his major Indian supporters -- including former Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colorado), a member of the
Northern
Cheyenne Tribe of Montana, is a registered lobbyist.
