Navajo medicine man sentenced for rape
Thursday, August 14, 2008

A 70-year-old Navajo medicine man was sentenced to 18 months in prison for raping a 15-year-old girl in New Mexico.

David Filfred initially denied having contact with the girl, who became pregnant following the assault in 2002. DNA tests showed the child, now 5 years old, to be Filfred's.

Filfred pleaded guilty to lesser charges of criminal sexual penetration and contributing to the delinquency of minors. He could have been sentenced to three years.
