After touting his new role as a member of the "McCain Victory 2008 Team," conservative Christian activist Ralph Reed failed to show up at a fundraiser for
Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) on Tuesday.
Reed was a figure in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal that McCain investigated as chairman of the
Senate Indian Affairs Committee. Reed was never charged with any crimes but his political career faltered after McCain's final report noted he accepted $4.1 million from Abramoff's tribal gaming clients.
Reed doesn't seem to hold a grudge and he urged people to donate money for the fundraiser in Atlanta, Georgia. McCain ended up taking in more than $1.75 million, the Associated Press reported.
