Alaska Natives held a rally for
Sen. Barack Obama
(D-Illinois) in Fairbanks on Tuesday.
Supporters said Obama's platform addresses issues important to rural Native villages. Affordable energy, universal health care, reform of the No Child Left Behind Act and protection for subsistence rights were among the issues mentioned.
“This is the first time I can remember that a presidential candidate has acknowledged the needs of Alaskans, and on behalf of the Native community, I fully support him,” said Daisy Stevens in Gwich'in, The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported.
