Sen. McCain doesn't know how many homes he owns
Friday, August 22, 2008

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Illinois) criticized Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) as being out of touch with the American public after the former chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee was unable to recall the number of homes he owns.

McCain told Politico.com that he didn't know how many houses he and his wife, the heir to a beer distributorship, own. "I think -- I'll have my staff get to you," McCain said.

Obama and his campaign quickly answered the question and said McCain owned seven homes, including multi-million dollar properties in Arizona. McCain's campaign pointed out that Obama owns a "million-dollar mansion" and recently returned from a vacation in Hawaii.

Neither McCain nor Obama are co-sponsoring S.2062, the reauthorization of the Native American Housing and Self-Determination Act.
