Coeur d’Alene Tribe funds popular bus service

With gas prices at record highs, commuters are flocking the first tribal-county public transportation project in Idaho.
The
Coeur d’Alene Tribe started the service in 2004 to help members get around Kootenai County. Local governments have since joined forces with the tribe to expand what is now known as
CityLink.
A record 38,000 people took the bus in July, double the number from a year ago. Commuters like the fact that the service is free.
The tribe and the county will re-examine their agreement next year to consider charging for the bus, which is funded by a $1.38 million grant from the
Federal Transit Administration and a $1.38 million matching grant from the tribe.
