Alaska Native woman won't face Rep. Young
Wednesday, August 27, 2008

Diane Benson, a Tlingit woman, lost the Democratic nomination for Alaska's sole Congressional seat on Tuesday.

Benson, who drew attention on the campaign trail after speaking about overcoming sexual assaults, came in second to Ethan Berkowitz. "I'll be looking for a job, if I don't have this one," Benson told The Anchorage Daily News. "Seriously."

The Republican race between Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) and Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell is still too close to call. Young is under federal investigation for his ties to lobbyists.
