Cobell judge assigned UKB trust accounting case
Wednesday, September 3, 2008

The federal judge handling the Cobell v. Kempthorne lawsuit has another trust accounting case on his docket.

In June, Judge James Robertson in Washington, D.C., was assigned a lawsuit filed by the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma. The tribe is seeking an accounting of its trust funds, assets, land and other interests.

The tribe originally filed the case in Oklahoma but requested a change of venue. The Department of Justice opposed the request.

A status hearing is being held this morning in the case, No. 08-1087.

The tribe has a case pending in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims to seek a share in the $40 million Arkansas River settlement.
