Cherokee Nation embraces star college quarterback
Monday, October 13, 2008

The Cherokee Nation considers University of Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford to be one of its brightest young members even if he isn't making a big deal of his Indian heritage.

When asked whether he was proud of being Cherokee, Bradford's response was “Uh, very," The New York Times reported.

Bradford's father is Cherokee. "There’s a lot of people in Oklahoma that have Indian blood. I wasn’t brought up to really know much about it. I can’t really give him a lot of information either," Kent Bradford tells the Times.

According to the Times, Bradford is a contender for the Heisman Trophy. His record for the season is 134 of 185 for 2,052 yards, 23 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.
