Bush signs Pechanga land transfer bill into law

President Bush has signed
H.R.2963,
the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Mission Indians Land Transfer Act, into law.
The bill transfers about 1,178 acres to the
Pechanga Band
of Luiseño Indians. The land is currently held by the
Bureau of Land Management.
The bill says the land "may be used only as open space and for the protection, preservation, and maintenance of the archaeological, cultural, and wildlife resources thereon." The tribe is barred from engaging in gaming on the land.
