The Bush administration will recommend the expansion of the controversial Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository, The New York Times reports.

The facility in Nevada is years behind schedule. President Bush has supported its development despite opposition in the state.

President-elect Barack Obama has questioned the need for the repository, which is located on Western Shoshone treaty lands. Several tribes live near the site.
