Dirk Kempthorne to stay on board until January 20

Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne will stay in Washington, D.C., until January 20, 2009, when president-elect Barack Obama. is inaugurated.

Kempthorne told The Idaho Statesman the transition to the new administration will be smooth. He said work continues every day at the Interior Department.

"It's every bit as busy here today as any day I've been here," the former governor of Idaho told the paper.

Kempthorne came on board in May 2006. His administration has made it harder for tribes to take land into trust for sites away from existing reservations.
