Osage Nation in talks for new tobacco compact
Wednesday, November 12, 2008

The Osage Nation and the state of Oklahoma are in talks for a new tobacco compact, state Treasurer Scott Meacham told The Tulsa World.

The Osage deal would mirror provisions in a new compact with the Cherokee Nation, Meacham said. The Cherokees agreed to a flat tax rate and to end retail-to-retail sales.

The state was negotiating with the Muscogee Nation but the tribe halted talks in September.
