Tribes await naming of Indian post at White House
Monday, November 24, 2008

President-elect Barack Obama will fulfill a campaign pledge to appoint an Indian adviser at the White House, a spokesperson said.

Tribes currently deal with an adviser who also works with state and local governments. They are looking forward to having an adviser of their own.

‘I think for tribes to have a liaison in the White House shows that President-elect Obama wants to reach out to all sectors of America," a spokesperson for the Morongo Band of Mission Indians told The Palm Springs Desert Sun.

It's not clear when an announcement for the position will be made.
