Oklahoma seizes 51,000 packs of tribal cigarettes

The state of Oklahoma seized 51,000 packs of cigarettes that were being transported to tribal smokeshops.

The Oklahoma Tax Commission claimed the packs were stamped with low 6-cent stamps. They were apparently headed to the Muscogee Nation and the Sac and Fox Nation.

The Muscogee Nation does not have a compact with the state and have received low-tax cigarettes from other tribes. But the Cherokee Nation and the Osage Nation agreed to stop those shipments after signing new compacts.

The Sac and Fox Nation has a compact and can sell low-tax cigarettes.
