Lawmakers angry over Oneida Nation trust transfer

Lawmakers in New York said they will fight a decision to place 18 acres in trust for the
Oneida Nation.
Sen. Charles Schumer (D) and
Rep. Michael Arcuri (D) called the decision a last-minute move by the
Interior Department. They said the public wasn't given an opportunity to comment on the transfer of a surplus
U.S. Air Force property to the tribe.
The land was already in federal hands so the acquisition doesn't have an impact on local tax rolls.
