"“A good doughnut that’s good for you”: Now, that’s a contradiction in terms. And those of us who struggle to find foods that are healthy, low in calories and taste really good wonder if this North Dakota baker knows what he’s talking about.
It’s “a cake donut with sugary coatings that’s high in fiber and essential vitamins,” according to a recent story in the Bismarck Tribune.
The doughnut is made with hard white spring wheat, a specialty crop that some North Dakota farmers hope will grow in importance in the state. The farmers, the State Mill and Elevator in Grand Forks and a commercial bakery in Finley, N.D., teamed up to use the wheat in a consumable product — namely, this new doughnut.
And if the “healthy” and “low- calorie” claims hold up, the result will make doughnut history.
But can it beat a Krispy Kreme doughnut?"
