Former Senate staffer charged in Abramoff scandal
Monday, February 23, 2009

Ann Copland, a former aide to Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Mississippi), has been charged in connection with the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal.

Copland accepted thousands of dollars in gifts from Abramoff and his associates, according to federal prosecutors. They say she took action to benefit the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Abramoff's biggest client.

"She'll get everything she wants," Abramoff said in one e-mail.

Copland worked for Cochran for 29 years before abruptly departing last year.
