Wednesday, March 18, 2009 Filed Under: World An angry Aymara community in Bolivia has ceremonially banished the country's former vice president and his family. After Victor Hugo Cardenas, 58, hinted he might run against President Evo Morales, his family was attacked. His wife and 24-year-old son were hospitalized with serious injuries. "We don't pardon those who betray our brother Morales," community leader Alfredo Huaynapaco told the Associated Press. Cardenas is Aymara, like Morales, who is Bolivia's first Indian president. Cardenas accuses Morales of being a "symbol of the discrimination of revenge, of confrontation and racism." Morales has remained popular despite facing some political struggles. He survived a recall election and won approval of a constitution that recognizes indigenous rights.
