Cobell hasn't heard from Obama administration
Monday, March 23, 2009

Elouise Cobell, the lead plaintiff in the Indian trust fund lawsuit, hasn't heard from President Barack Obama or his administration about a settlement to the long-running case

In his campaign platform, Obama said he was committed to "equitably" settling the case. But with an important court hearing fast approaching, Cobell said the new president doesn't appear to be living up to his promise.

“The time to talk settlement is now,” Cobell, a member of the Blackfeet Nation of Montana, told Indian Country Today.

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals will hear arguments on May 11 to determine how much money the Cobell plaintiffs are owed for the federal government's failure to account for billion of dollars of their trust funds.
