House Resources hearing on land-into-trust ruling
Thursday, March 26, 2009

The House Natural Resources Committee has scheduled a hearing on Wednesday, April 1, to address the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar

The decision limits the land-into-trust process to tribes that were "under federal jurisdiction" in 1934. Tribes are asking Congress to amend the Indian Reorganization Act to resolve doubts about pending and future applications.

The House hearing will take place at 10am in Room 1324 of the Longworth House Office Building. A witness list hasn't been released.

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee will hold its hearing on the decision on Thursday, April 2.
