Seminole Nation to discuss Adam Walsh Act

The Seminole Nation of Oklahoma will be discussing implementation of the Adam Walsh Act and criminal issues at a forum on April 2.

The Adam Walsh Act requires tribes to create a sex offender registry system or cede authority to the state. For those who opt into the program, tribes must comply with the law by July 27, 2009.

The law also requires sex offenders who reside in Indian Country to register. Federal prosecutors have brought cases against offenders in Montana, Colorado and other states.

The Seminole Nation will discuss other legal and criminal issues at meetings on April 9 and April 18.
