Native youth display skills at language conference

More than 500 students attended the seventh annual
Oklahoma Native American Youth Language Fair this week.
The event took place at the
Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History on Monday and Tuesday. Participants showed off their Native language skills in spoken word, dance, music, film and essay contests.
"It’s fun,” Sydney Gabbard, a high school senior whose team took first place for a skit in the Sauc language, told The Oklahoman. "It’s a chance to compete and learn more about our language.”
In related news, the 34th annual Native American Art Show takes place Thursday-Saturday at the
Penn Square Mall in Oklahoma City.
