The
Rosebud Sioux Tribe of South Dakota lobbied
President Barack Obama on the controversial Black Hills trust fund, Indian Country Today reports.
Chairman Rodney Bordeaux discussed the issue with Obama on the campaign trail. One of the tribe's members, Wizipan Garriott, worked on the campaign and now serves in the president's administration.
“We keep the lines of communication open,” Bordeaux told ICT. . “And there is no reason not to have hope.”
The tribe is concerned about a lawsuit that seeks to force the distribution of the $900 million fund. The plaintiffs say the Sioux Nation won't ever see the return of the Black Hills.
