The Senate Indian Affairs Committee held a hearing this afternoon to discuss the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar.

The decision limits the land-into-trust process to tribes that were "under federal jurisdiction" in 1934. Congress is being asked to ensure that all tribes, regardless of the date of federal recognition, can acquire trust lands.

The hearing started around 2:15pm and lasted about 35 minutes. The witness list follows:
Ed Lazarus
Partner, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld

Ron Allen
Secretary, National Congress of American Indians

Larry Long
Chairman, Conference of Western Attorneys General
