Abramoff and partner still owe millions to tribes

Jailed lobbyist Jack Abramoff and his business partner Michael Scanlon have yet to make payments on the $23 million they owe to their tribal victims, The Washington Post reports.
As part of their guilty pleas, Abramoff and Scanlon agreed to make restitution to the tribes they defrauded. But instead of making amends, Abramoff is using a $520,189 tax refund to pay lawyers, accountants and other people, the
Department of Justice said.
Government attorneys are asking a federal judge to stop Abramoff from using the refund to pay his bills.
They said they weren't told of the money until it was already being spent.
Abramoff is serving in federal prison in Maryland. Scanlon has not been sentenced.
