The
Red Lake Nation of Minnesota is moving to handle all child protection cases on the reservation.
The tribe is acting under the
Fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoptions Act of 2008. The law allows tribes to be treated like states for receiving federal funding from the Title IV-E program.
Child protection services on the reservation have been handed by
Beltrami County and the state. A dispute arose when the county stopped paying for cases involving Red Lake children.
