First Nation to take ownership of provincial park

The
Chippewas of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation signed an agreement to take ownership of the
Ipperwash Provincial Park in Ontario.
The park was the site of a high profile fatal clash between Native activists and Ontario Park Police in 1995.
Dudley George was killed, a death that was blamed on the government in the
Ipperwash Inquiry that was completed in 2007.
The inquiry recommended the park be returned to Native hands. The agreement begins the process to transfer the park to the First Nation.
