Tribal ID cards still allowed for US border crossings

The
Department of Homeland Security will continue to accept tribal photo identification cards and
Indian and Native Affairs Canada identity status cards at the U.S.-Canada border.
Tribes and First Nations faced a June 1 deadline to start using passports or other compliant documents to enter the U.S. or to return to Canada. But the "the current practice of accepting photo identification tribal cards will continue for a modest, but reasonable transition period," The Sault Star reported.
The
National Congress of American Indians has been working with DHS on the issue. NCAI will be informed when the transition period ends.
