The Canadian government has chosen new members for the
Indian Residential Schools Truth
and Reconciliation Commission, The Globe and Mail reports.
Justice Murray Sinclair, the first Native judge appointed to the Manitoba bench, will serve as chair. Wilton Littlechild, the Alberta regional chief for the
Assembly of First Nations, and Marie Wilson, a former regional director of CBC North, will serve as members.
The commission was appointed to carry out part of the government's $1.9 billion settlement to former students of Native residential schools. But the last chair resigned amid a dispute over the commission's work.
An official announcement on the new members is expected soon.
