Union wants tribal help on health care option

The
Service Employees International Union is recruiting tribes in Montana to press for a public health insurance plan, The Hill newspaper reports.
The union is turning to tribes because of their close relationship with
Sen. Max Baucus (D-Montana). As chairman of the
Senate Finance Committee, Baucus is overseeing bills to reform the national health care system and the
Indian Health Service.
So far, the union has a "partnership" with the
Fort Peck Tribes and is working on more agreements. The exact details of the arrangement were not reported.
According to the Hill, Baucus is leaning against public insurance due to Republican opposition.
