Pueblo man charged with killing grandmother

A man from Cochiti Pueblo in New Mexico has been charged with murder for the death of his 93-year-old grandmother and he faces other charged in connection with another death.

Brian Joseph Chavez is accused of shooting his 93-year-old grandmother, Jane Louise Kinyahne, at Cochiti Pueblo. Kinyahne, who was Navajo, was suffering and wanted to die, Chavez said in a note to his father.

"She was asleep. Dad please forgive me. It was peaceful," Chavez wrote in the note, The Albuquerque Journal reported.

Chavez is being held in federal custody because the crime occurred in Indian Country. Separately, he faces murder and assault in state court for a shooting incident off the reservation that left a man dead and another injured.
