High school students attend health care camp

Twenty-five Indian high school students are attending the
Na-ha-shnee Native American Health Science Institute in Spokane, Washington, this week.
The program encourages students to complete their education and consider careers in the health field.
In the 14 years of the camp, 70 percent of participants have gone on to college and 38 have become nurses.
Krysten Allen-Alford, 16, is taking part this year in hopes of becoming a pediatric nurse. “I just want to be somebody who helps out and going to college will prepare me," the teen from the
Warm Springs Reservation in Oregon told The Spokesman Review.
The camp is being held at
Washington State University.
