Choctaw Nation cancels election for first time

The
Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma has canceled a tribal council election for the first time in history.
Tribal members were supposed to vote on six council seats. But since no one filed against the incumbents, the July 7 election was called off.
"No one filed, so there will be no election," Kay Green, the secretary of the Choctaw Nation Election Board, told The Durant Democrat. "For the first time in the history of the Choctaw Nation, there was not anyone who filed against them."
