Young Cherokee bicyclists retrace Trail of Tears

A group of young members of the
Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma will be retracing the Trail of Tears.
The group, whose ages range from 15 to 24, will bike 1,000 miles. They will start in Georgia, near the Cherokee capital of New Echota, and follow the Trail of Tears route through Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
"It means a lot to be able to ride where my ancestors walked," 20-year-old Sarah Holcomb, the only woman in the group, told The Tulsa World. "I know it's going to be hard. I'm a very determined person. I want to be able to make it through. I'm ready to start riding."
The
Remember the Removal Ride begins on Saturday. It will take 23 days for the group to reach Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
