Eastern Cherokees plan expansion of museum

The
Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians plans to spend more than $2 million to expand the tribal museum.
The
Museum of the Cherokee Indian has already raised $1.9 million for the project. The goal is $2.35 million.
“The museum is pressed to the limits with the success of our permanent and special exhibitions,” Ken Blankenship, the museum's executive director, told The Asheville Citizen-Times. "The only solution is to create a new wing."
The 8,500 square-feet expansion will include a public reading room, digital libraries, an art studio, a courtyard and a lobby.
