Santa Ana Pueblo hosts PGA national tournament
Wednesday, July 1, 2009

Santa Ana Pueblo in New Mexico hosted the PGA Professional National Championship this week.

The 312 players competed at the tribe's Twin Warriors Golf Club. The course is one of two on the reservation.

The first course, Santa Ana Golf Club, opened in 1991. Tribal members play for free there and can rent golf club sets for free.

The newer Twin Warriors opened in 2001. Tribal members receive a discount to play there.

"The leadership invested time to teach the tribal members how to play golf and that effort has led to more than 500 members who have hit a golf ball," Alden Paquin, the chairman of the Santa Ana Pueblo Board of Directors, told PGA.Com. "[T]his has led to a solid 200 members who play on a regular basis."
