San Juan Southern Paiute leader pleads guilty

Evelyn James, the vice president of the
San Juan
Southern Paiute Tribe of Arizona, pleaded guilty to stealing tribal funds, money laundering and making false statements.
James was indicted last September. She admitted to writing herself checks for $300,000 when she served as president of the tribe and to lying about using $225,000 in federal funds to hire police officers.
James faces up to 25 years in federal prison.
