City opposes Muscogee Nation land-into-trust

The city council in
Tulsa,
Oklahoma, voted unanimously on a resolution that opposes the land-into-trust application of the
Muscogee (Creek)
Nation.
The tribe wants a total of 43 acres placed in trust. The properties are located on opposite sides of the Arkansas River.
The parcel on the west side would be used for retail development. The east side is being used for parking at the tribe's new
River Spirit Casino.
City officials fear both parcels could be used for a bridge across the river. The bridge in the past has been controversial.
The tribe's application is pending at the
Bureau of Indian Affairs.
