Former Abramoff associate headed to trial
Friday, August 14, 2009

Kevin Ring, a former associate of jailed lobbyist Jack Abramoff, is set to go to trial on September 8.

Ring was indicted last September on bribery and corruption charges. He is accused of plying lawmakers and their aides with gifts and of conspiring to defraud tribes, most notably Sandia Pueblo of New Mexico.

According to Roll Call, federal prosecutors said they will call a number of former Congressional staffers to the stand. Some of them have pleaded guilty in connection with the Abramoff scandal.

Ring has refused to plead guilty.
