City leader to release Creek Nation business plan

A city council member in
Tulsa, Oklahoma, plans to release details of what he says is a
Muscogee (Creek)
Nation development plan.
Councilor Bill Christiansen told The Tulsa World that he obtained the document from an unidentified source. He said he is worried about the potential for the city to lose sales taxes, property taxes and other revenue.
"I'm not against the tribe developing land in Tulsa, but it must be done fairly, where everyone is competing on the same playing field," he told the paper. "We have to protect the city and small businesses."
According to Christiansen, the tribe plans a bridge, a hotel, retail shops, an office park and housing. The development would be located on property for which the tribe is preparing a land-into-trust application to submit to the
Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The city council has gone on record against the application. Christiansen wants to hire an attorney who deals with trust issues to fight the proposal.
