Mohawk First Nation discusses more border issues

The
Mohawk Council of Akwesasne met with the
U.S. Customs and Border Protection to discuss border issues.
U.S. officials have blocked two lanes on the Seaway International Bridge in response to traffic concerns. Apparently, some drivers have been speeding and driving on the wrong side of the bridge in order to avoid a security checkpoint.
The Mohawks want the lanes reopened but no agreement was reached, The Watertown Daily Times reported. More meetings are planned to discuss border crossing issues.
The Mohawks also have met with the
Canadian Border Services Agency but haven't resolved a key issue --armed guards at a crossing station on tribal land.
