Mankiller named fellow at Oklahoma university

Wilma Mankiller, the first woman to serve as chief of the
Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, has been named a fellow at
Northeastern State University.
Mankiller is the first Sequoyah Institute Fellow at the university. She will focus on intellectual, economic and cultural achievements of Native Americans and on leadership roles for women and indigenous people.
Mankiller was awarded an honorary doctorate from the university in May. She will be based in Tahlequah.
“The university not only has a rich native American history, Tahlequah also is the home of the great Cherokee Nation. With NSU and the Cherokee Nation working together, anything is possible,” said Mankiller, The Tahlequah Daily Press reported.
